If you decide to find out the gender of your baby before delivery, it may be the single most exciting day of your pregnancy...aside from the day you took a positive pregnancy test! It's true, gender reveals have become quite the event (some ideas better than others--how did a gender reveal party start a wildfire?!). And rightly so, because it is a huge milestone during pregnancy that you understandably want to share with family & friends. As an invitee, you may ask yourself a question: do you bring gifts to a gender reveal party?
Should You Bring a Gift to a Gender Reveal Party?
Traditionally, there’s no strict etiquette rule that says you must bring a gift to a gender reveal party. In most cases, if you’re invited to the reveal, you’ll also be invited to the baby shower later on — and that’s the real gift-giving occasion.
Our verdict: skip the gift for the gender reveal. Instead, save your thoughtful present for the baby shower or send a postpartum care package once the baby arrives, when Mom could really use some extra love and support.
That said, we don’t recommend showing up completely empty-handed! Think of a gender reveal invitation as you would an invite to a casual dinner party. Start by asking the host if there’s anything you can bring to contribute — maybe a dessert, an appetizer, or a fun drink.
If the host insists you don’t need to bring anything (“just bring yourself!”), a small gesture is still a lovely touch. Consider a simple house-style gift such as:
A bottle of wine or sparkling cider for the parents-to-be
